Marine habitats are the largest aquatic ecosystems on Earth, but little is known about the genomes of marine organisms. Understanding the evolutionary history and genetic composition of marine organisms is critical to understanding their adaptations, ecological roles, and responses to environmental change. As a leading company with extensive experience in genomics research, CD Genomics offers long read sequencing solutions to explore the genomes and transcriptomes of a wide range of marine species and ecosystems.
Genomics first focused on large-scale DNA sequencing of genomes of model organisms such as E. coli, yeast, Drosophila, and Arabidopsis thaliana. In the last few years, as genomics research has progressively deepened, it has begun to expand to non-model organisms. Among many biological families, marine fishes have outstanding economic value and important research significance. Because of their long evolutionary history, wide distribution range, and diverse living environments, marine fishes are ideal for studying the relationship between environment and genome. Compared with other animal phyla, the genomic information of fish is relatively rich, and its research results can be widely used in many fields, such as molecular genetic breeding, identification of germplasm resources, and phylogenetic studies. In addition, population genomics can also be applied to marine ecology and environmental issues, such as biodiversity assessment, invasive species monitoring, and the establishment of marine protected areas. Therefore, the study of marine fish population genomics will provide an important theoretical basis for the optimization of aquaculture species and the formulation of fishery policies. With the advancement of genome technology, significant progress has been made in the field of marine genomics, especially through the application of long read sequencing.

CD Genomics is at the forefront of providing cutting-edge long read sequencing solutions for studying the evolution of marine organisms. Our state-of-the-art PacBio SMRT sequencing and ONT Nanopore sequencing platforms enable researchers to unravel the complex genetic landscapes of marine species, revealing their evolutionary history and adaptive mechanisms.
We offer the following long read sequencing solutions for marine evolutionary studies:
Marine fishes are widely distributed and effective populations are usually large, so the impact of genetic drift is significantly lower than that of natural selection. We provide whole genome sequencing with long read sequencing for analyzing a large number of loci within marine fish populations. Combined with traditional quantitative genetics methods, we can effectively distinguish genes with important physiological and biochemical roles and non-coding region variation, which can help you to understand the mechanism and specific process of disproportionate selection in the evolution of marine organisms.
The identification of genes involved in genetic differentiation has always been a very important but difficult task for evolutionary biology. We provide long read sequencing to analyze the loci and genomic regions associated with genetic differentiation in marine organisms, including structural variants, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), etc. We also use bioinformatics tools to analyze genomic data obtained from specimens, which can reveal changes in allele frequencies within populations of specific species, i.e., the occurrence of microevolution.
In terrestrial and marine ecosystems, there are still opportunities for secondary contact between populations that have diverged, leading to the creation of hybrid zones or ecological transition zones. We offer long read sequencing to reveal the genetic structure and formation of hybrid bands in marine organisms.
CD Genomics is committed to advancing marine genomics research and supporting scientific breakthroughs in the field of marine evolution. We aim to help you better understand marine species adaptation and evolution and make informed decisions to help protect life in lakes, rivers, and oceans. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. We look forward to working with you on projects of interest.
